Itinerary: Orient

Overview
What luck! Virgo was over half empty as it was just before Chinese New Year and a couple of weeks after the Tidal wave. This ship is in great condition. Knowing that it is geared for Singaporean Gamblers I was really impressed with the shows and attitude of the crew. Probably would have not have had as good a cruise if 2000 passengers were aboard.

Our cruise was a three day to Malaysia as Phuket was still off limits from the Tidal Wave. Very different kind of cruise. Met all sorts of people of different countries and Religions. Made the cruise that more enjoyable.

Public Areas
There is a walk around promenade and as I stated the ships public areas were in great shape. The crew was cleaning the hand rails and polishing the brass the whole cruise. Theater was nice with a great lighting system. I personally like the couch like seating in the theaters of another ships and you could not get a drink if you were on the ground level. Atrium was well decorated "nice pictures"

All of the specialty restaurants were decorated very well as were the main Dinning room (Bell) and the Buffet (Med). I can think of nothing worth complaining about.

Food and Service
Here is where I differ in this choice restaurant thing. $70 dollars to eat at a alternative restaurant is a bit high, and then when you pay that the choices of meals is limited rather then the Japanese restaurant. The choices on the "free" restaurants tend to make you want to try one of the alternatives which are limited. I like assigned seating with the same guests. Food was great at the Japanese Resturant. Did not try any others, ate at the Medditrainium buffet and that was average. Breakfast at the main dinning hall (forgot what they called it) was up to par however whatch out for the $8 glass of fresh OJ as there is "free" OJ at the toaster.

Cabins
We had a balcony, TV would not shut off and asked several times to have that repaired. Bathroom was clean and about what you expect. Balcony had two chairs and the glass on the railing has already become cloudy. A/C worked really good. Cabin steward forgot to empty trash couple of times and nothing special (ie towel sculpture etc). Guess when no tipping is expetced no one goes out of their way. We did tip.

Entertainment
Crew show was what you might get on any ship, however the Suprensa show was very good. Saw the "Las Vegas" topless show that was good maybe same as another ship without their tops not a guy show only my wife enjoyed it after a couple of minutes you don't even notice the missing clothing as it is done with class. Main show was the best I have ever seen on a ship. Sit in Balcony if you want a drink.

Activities
Our itinerary was changed do to Tidal wave. We went to Penang Island typical touristy place with some nice hotels along the coast. we went to the large temple on the hill by taxi ship offered this for $45 we paid $5 each way. Lots of shops at the temple and good bargaining. Lawgawi Malaysia was very small area of shopping, there is a gondola ride on the local mountain that you can get to by taxi. We dove at the stop and the reef is very alive with many new and growing areas. $150 with gear from the ship. The hour long boat ride to the diving maybe a little tricky when the water is rough.

Who Goes
There were only 8 Americans on board. Mostly Asian and Indian. Aussies where in no short supply either. Everybody was kind of surprised to see Americans on board. Other passengers were great and it was nice to interact with them in the bars and dining areas.
