Renaissance Cruises

MS R Three

Your Rating:Two Stars

Date of Trip: June 16, 2000
Itinerary: South Pacific

Overview
We loved the islands and the ship was beautiful, however we were delayed 1 day due to a strike in France and Renaissance did not live up to their written word in how they would help us get home. They dumped us in L.A. without notifying our connecting flights as they had promised to to. They have not answered mail, and now have shut down correspondence on line. Something is definitely fishy. We also had numerous people get food poisoning and we had chemical burns on our arms from the cleaning solutions that they used on the pool furniture. They refused to even give us bandages to cover the burns, let alone help in any other way.

Public Areas
The ship itself was wonderful and we especially liked the piano bar

Food and Service
The Italian and Grill restaurants were hard to get reservations for, but the food was fairly good. They did not give me what I ordered in the Italian Restaurant, but I did not say anything. It was very hard to hear in the Grill. The food on deck on 9 was ok, but rarely warm, let alone hot. The best food was in the Grill.

Cabins
The shower was a bit tight, but ok. The room was really very nice and the cabinets were beautiful. The sheets were not changed often, and we had to ask for soap and washcloths. The steward was cleaning 26 rooms, so we tried to be understanding about these things. The window was no where near as big as we expected. It was more like a large port hole. However, we spent less time there than on tours and in public rooms with beautiful views.

Entertainment
The dancers and singers were wonderful and extremely talented. The comics were ok. The cruise staff was nice, but the Hotel Manager, Pursor, and the new Captain, and especially the doctor left a lot to be desired. They did not even have the courtesy to care when we were burned by chemicals.

Activities
No children are allowed. All of our tours were wonderful. The same tours were available off ship for at least half off the price. The 4X4's were a must, and of course swimming is also. It was fun to swim with sharks and sting rays. The ship will try to make you think that you will not be safe if you go on an independent tour, but that was not the case at all. They went the same places that we went and everyone was very pleased with the options available.

Who Goes
Most of the passengers were older than we were, but many were also our age and a few younger. Everyone was friendly and there were a few that we will correspond with.
