Itinerary: Transatlantic

Overview
This was our 27th cruise. Without doubt, it was one of the best we have ever taken. It is a small, clean, friendly ship that sails smoothly and my only complaint was that there was no self-service laundry - The 23 day itinerary was great and the cruise director (Elizabeth Rafferty) was the best in the business.

Public Areas
The pool was only in use twice due to cool weather or else sloshing of water. We didn't mind that. The casino is attractive but I didn't use it. The movie theatre was comfortable but unfortunately there were only six films being shown over and over again. The lounges were fine and the dining room delightful.

Food and Service
We never went to the buffet but the meals in the dining room were very good. There was always a choice of Greek, Vegetarian, or Pacific Rim entrees as well as regular ones. The soups were great and the desserts were super. Some very interesting salads. This was not a luxury cruise so no caviar or lobster but plenty of steak and lamb.

Cabins
The cabin on Odysseus deck was quite comfortable and quiet. IT had two portholes, easily adjustable air conditioning, plenty of ice, comfortable beds - kept very clean and the bathroom was adequate. I was able to string up a clothesline in the shower and there was a shelf and medicine cabinet for our things- Soap and shampoo were supplied

Entertainment
Without doubt the entertainment on this trip was the best I have ever seen. Singers, dancers, Magician = beautiful production shows with fabulous costumes and the orchestra was superb. The other musical combos in the lounges were also great

Activities
The arts and crafts were exceptional. Never saw items like this on any other ship. Marilyn and Jim were the teachers and they had us making t-shirts, picture frames, etc. that were all beautiful. The library is too small and I imagine that on short cruises it was probably adequate. The lecturer (a former Ambassador) was excellent and the people who took the Bridge lessons were extremely pleased with Louise and Stanley Bender's lessons.Ports were unusual. We did many Caribbean islands - then Tenerife, Tangier, Nice, Livorno, Capri and finally Piraeus. We did our own tours with taxis except in Tangier where we took the ship tour.

Who Goes
We were very fortunate in having only 300 people on board (one sitting) and 270 of them were from the Vancouver/Victoria area. Very jolly, friendly, funny folk and we enjoyed sailing with all of them.
