Overview
Wanting to cruise the Regal Empress before something happens to her (retirement?) We booked what would be the lowest price room we have ever booked to get the upper lower experience before we are to old to climb the ladder. The ship is in great repair for such an old liner. everything was clean and well painted. The embarkation process was very slow and was told by many of waiting up to two hours from the time they got there to being on board. I would consider getting there just before the 3:30 last call as we did and waited only half an hour but missed lunch.

Public Areas
Well if you have ever tried one of those corn mazes you will get the same experience with her lower decks, ran into dead ends several times. The dinning room is used as a walk through deck when meals are not being served, don't really like that idea. The elevators are slow like expected on old ships - tried one once just to say I did it. The pool area was in great shape as were all decks. Nothing looked really worn. The Commodore room has these really nice sunken couches on either side that is great to sit and listen to the so so piano player. The bar were all nice indoor and outdoor. The dinning room classic.

Food and Service
Food was great at dinner and breakfast at the dinning room was great also. The buffet was kind of small and average. Bring quarters and you can buy sodas cheap at the vending machine near the buffet they will not supply the $1.75 in quarters for you. I looked at the midnight buffet on Mexican night wouldn't be worth getting out of bed for but if you eat early there are a few tasty tacos. Service was really first class in the dinning room would stand up to any Celebrity Cruise service. The service was good at the pool and they did not hassle you too much. Remember that your tips are included on your bill at the end of the cruise I never saw that anywhere on my ticket web site or anything else.

Cabins
Well we did want the upper and lower and we did only pay $119. What we did get was a very very small room but a port hole was a bonus. A/c work very well, could have hung beef in the room. The bathroom was in good order. The closet doors had seen some ruff service but did still work. No TV this cruise but was told by others that the tv did not pick up anything anyway. Our room was in good shape and did not look as if paint was holding it together like I expected from an old ship.

Entertainment
Well we did just get off the Superstar Virgo with the best entertainment I have ever experienced on any ship, so I was not impressed with the show either night. Bingo was better then Virgo though. The piano player was soothing place to hang out never really picked up the pace there. The new thing to do is Kareoake however you spell it. That was entertaining if you drank a little before getting there. THE dinner show "flaming Alaska" I have really missed have not seen that in a couple of years and was told by our dinner mates that was the highlight of their cruise. This cruise is what you make it, the shows are mediocre, the piano player quiet enough so you can talk with new friends and the kareoake fun to do at 11:30 just before buffet. All said I enjoyed myself as did my wife and a cheap get away at that.

Activities
Nassau Bahamas, What can I say? We have been there several times. Touristy place nick naks to buy get your hair braided so it looks like you went on vacation to your fellow employees when you get back. We did the dolphin encounter several years ago and it was great. If you want to lay on the beach got with the Blue lagoon as most beaches on Nassau are owned by that big hotel.

Who Goes
Americans and French Canadians with a few Cubans mixed in. Seemed mostly the Americans to be in their 30-40s and the French to be retirees. Not many kids on board and the ones that were seemed board.
