Overview
This is a VERY busy cruise! Not too much time really to see the ship's offerings. The shore excursions are long and are not for the faint of heart. LOTS of walking!!

Public Areas
I didn't like the Royal Promenade as it was crowded every evening with it's mix of shops and bars. It was difficult to move around with the sales tables from the shops. We liked the Concierge Club for Suite and Diamond members. Crowded, with not enough seating. It had an OPEN bar with beer, wine and hard liqour. Open from 5:30-9:30 each night. Free of course. We had one drink and left for dinner at 6:30.

Food and Service
Food was OK and never had a problem. They really stressed the use of the hand sanitizers(Noro-Virus protection) although you still handled the utensils to take the food you wanted. Not everyone used the dispensers.(Windjammer)No reports of any illness.

Cabins
We had a Superior Ocean view cabin with balcony. On this cruise we could have done without as we did not have but one sea day and it was windy and COLD. You left early in the morning, went on tours, ate dinner, went to a show and then to bed. The excursions were approximately 10 hours long. You were beat after a long day.

They had the new bedding but you could still feel the edge of the bed where they were put together to form a Queen size bed. I did NOT like the heavy covers and used a blanket instead. I asked for feather pillows as I dislike the foam rubber type. The were small and apparently well used as they flattened out easily-not much fluff to them. Quiet -Deck 9 slightly forward mid ships. Shower has doors. Closets OK for 2 people.

Entertainment
The cruise staff was OK. The Captain was funny and even played the guitar and sang "Brown eyed girl" He was very good!!! The cruise director was so-so. old jokes and probably new on the job.

We saw 2 of the performers before on the Mille last Feb. A MoTown group-very good and a stupidly funny comedian. They had an Elton John impersonator who was OK but I'm not an Elton fan. The only song I recognized was "Crocodile Rock" The Ice Show was the best !!! IMHO. The singers and dancers were ok, note ok.

Activities
VERY busy days: Marseilles: Went to Aix En Provence. Sorry not to have meet Pascal. But seeing as we never where there before I would now suggest a meeting place such as the tourist center by the fountain in town center. A nice town as told to us by Pascal. Only day with a 4 hour tour. Relaxed on the ship in the afternoon.

Nice: Went to Monaco and Monte Carlo(part of Monaco). Very nice and clean town. Went to the cathedral where Princess Grace and Prince Rainier are buried. Went to the castle and saw the homes of Grace's two daughters-Caroline and Stephanie,Albert lives in the castle. Saw the Grand Casino-did not go in. Walked the streets where the high $$$$ shops are. This was a morning tour.

Toured Nice and Eze it was OK. EZE is built into the side of a cliff with a long steep climb to get into the town. These tours were back to back and seeing that we tendered we did not have time to go back to the ship, clean up a bit ,and have lunch.

Almost all the rest rooms in France and Italy have a small fee for the "Pee Pee Lady" who cleans the facilities. Yep, that's what they call them!!!

Florence and Pisa: A very LONG and tiring tour. LOTS of walking as the buses drop you off(parking is almost non- existent) and you needed to walk into town. Saw the grave of Galileo and Michelangelo in a big cathedral. Saw the replica of the David statue in the town square. Had lunch in a local restaurant, it was OK. LOTS of walking on this tour. Pisa: More walking to see the Leaning Tower. It's kind of in a park setting. Did not climb the Tower. After this tour we were really tired with all the walking.

Rome: Went to the Colosseum and the Vatican-Saint Peters Basilica. The Colosseum is awesome but in bad shape. The structure was stripped of it's marble facade by the Popes who used it to build the Basilicas. A real shame! The lines were long to get in but the tours have a special line so we got in right away. The Saint Peters is huge, with many Popes buried there with a few caskets opened to see the Pontiffs. Long line with about a hour to get into Saint Peters.

The Pope was seen by those that did the morning tour as it was All Saints day. We went to the Catacombs in the morning. Once again a lot of walking. Lunch at a local hotel.

We bought a recommended book with overlays:Rome: Before and Now" 25 Euros with a DVD. A Must! BTW all tours have a radio and headphone for ease of hearing the tour guide explain what you see. Naples: We went to Pompeii(rainy) really incredible place that was buried with 22 feet of ash and pumice when Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. They are still working on this site with only half the area open to the public. Bought a book/DVD here also. A must see! Went on the Amalfi Coast drive, Very winding road (bus had trouble making some of the sharp turns and had to make a few tries to make the curves)up to Amalfi ,a small town with shops etc. Had a local pizza snack-very good. Also bought a bottle of Lemoncello ,a lemom liqueur. Lunch was not to good at a local hotel as the food was obviously sitting for a while and was dried out. We left the area near Salereno via expressway and not back on the scary road up to Amalfi.

Who Goes
This cruise had nationalities from all over. A lot of rude and nasty Asians who thought nothing of pushing you out of their way in elevators and jumping into lines. We had an all American table for Diner(New Jersey, California, and Illinois),with a very nice spot in the dining room. All in all a very fast paced cruise not for the faint of heart. I lost weight with all the walking. If you want more specifics e-mail me. Frosty 4
