Itinerary: Baltic/Black Sea/Russia

Overview
Loved visiting the Imperial Capitals and revisiting history. The grandeur of the palaces of St. Petersburg was especially impressive!

Public Areas
The Viking lounge was very comfortable-a great place to watch a port on departure. The Windjammer Cafe was also a great area to watch the scenery, but was often an area where seating was difficult to obtain. And the traffic flow wasn't great with people leaving the buffet line and merging with people trying to find a seat. The pool looked lovely though we didn't have the time to try the facilities.

Food and Service
The food and service was excellent. We usually ate in the Windjammer for breakfast and lunch. With a growing teenager, we were sure he could always find something to satisfy his insatiable appetite. The dinners were excellent with the presentations something to behold. And there certainly were enough choices-5 course dinner every night. The wait staff was extremely attentive

Cabins
The cabin was a tight squeeze for 3 people, but we were rarely in the room. Adequate closet space and more than enough drawer space. The shower space was a little snug but certainly worked. We were blessed with a quiet room, but we had chosen an interior room knowing we would not be spending a great deal in it.

Entertainment
The entertainment was a big disappointment from the prior cruise we had taken. The only show worth viewing was the Broadway review. The others we wasted our time on-certainly not the quality we had raved about to the rest of our touring group!

Activities
Visited Oslo as our first stop and took the excursion to the Holmenkollen ski jump-OK, The Vigeland Sculpture Park-lovely and the Viking Museum. Very interesting. The highlight was the Folk museum but we didn't have nearly enough time to explore this area. We did Stockholm and Helsinki on our own. Stockholm would have been more interesting if we hadn't been hit with torrential rains. The Old Town was the highlight. By far the best port was St. Petersburg. We took the palace excursion and each palace was more beautiful than the last! We also did the Hermitage and Peterhof. I don't believe I would do the Hermitage again as there wasn't any time to explore on you own. Peterhof was incredible and not to be missed! We were lucky to be there at a time that the fountains were running. The street vendors could be pesky but you could get some very good bargains! Tallin was very nice, but we weren't there very long-the ship departed port at 3 in the afternoon. Copenhagen was also very nice-modern. Unfortunately we had rainy weather again so couldn't enjoy it fully.

Who Goes
Most of the other guests were senior citizens. There were very few people in our age group(50) and fewer with teenagers. It could not be considered a party cruise!
