Radisson Seven Seas Cruises

MS Paul Gauguin

Your Rating:Five Stars
Reviewed by: Ron Longstaffe
# previous cruises: 6
Date of Trip: March 10, 2001
Itinerary: South Pacific

Overview
Maximum 320 passengers. Outstanding service and food. No tie, no jacket, no tipping, no bingo, no phony art auctions, no atrium. Complimentary wines (and fine ones too) at lunch & dinner. Open seating for all meals, if you chose. Totally relaxing & friendly. Hard to go back to a large cruse ship !

Public Areas
Small casino - not used much; no slots. Public areas comfortable. Library unsupervised. Puzzles & games put out in hallway.

Food and Service
Three restaurants for dinner - two requiring reservations. Food was varied, imaginative & expertly prepared. Service was first rate - nothing seemed to be too much trouble. If you wanted caviar but it wasn't on the menu, the maitre 'd would provide it readily but apologize that no blintzes were ready.

Cabins
Cabins were very well designed. Lots of storage space including room for suitcases under the bed. Mini bar serviced everyday with free soft drinks & beer. Complimentary litre of hard liquor provided.

Entertainment
For a small ship, the entertainment was quite good. One highlight was 8 talented Polynesian girls - Les Gauguines - who danced, sang & charmed every day. Also two colorful local groups were brought on board to perform. Fascinating lectures on dolphins & the real story of the mutiny on the Bounty.

Activities
Lots of excursion choices in Tahaa, Bora Bora & Moorea. My favorites were the 4x4 off road trip in Bora Bora, feeding sharks & playing with sting rays & watching dolphins with a local expert. Kayaking & wind surfing available off the ship's stern.

Who Goes
Mostly American. Some Mexican newlyweds. A few Europeans, Asians & Canadians. On the whole, an intelligent, fun & gracious group that my wife & I were happy to meet & get to know.
