Princess Cruise Line

MS Regal Princess

Your Rating:Three Stars

Date of Trip: March 16, 2003
Itinerary: Australia

Overview
The standards have gone down with Princess Cruises. After paying for the cruise the cruise line are only interested in one thing. To get more money out of you by bingo, casino, art auctions and so on. If you like mega ships the Regal may appeal to you .However if you want a more personal cruise with high standards don't choose this cruise line.

Public Areas
The ship is generally well appointed. The main dislike was the'Dome'.This is where the casino is situated right on the upper forward deck. Very noisy and intrusive. the'Dome' is the only vantage point to look forward. There is no walk around deck. The pools were filthy and not cleaned once. Thick grime on the tiles which was certainly a health hazard

Food and Service
The Bistro very good to excellent. Nice and quiet with a more personal service. The main dinning room despite refurbishment was too noisy and intrusive. The service and attention to detail was not good. The cabin menu needs to be improved. Otherwise the food was ample.

Cabins
Very nice cabin with balcony on Aloha deck. Much larger shower than most ships. Very quiet.

Entertainment
The main shows were good. But as with most cruise lines they always had some one (unknown) from Las Vegas. One annoying thing was that the entertainers often came up to the poop deck where the two spa tubs were. They were noisy and 'hogged' the spas's. Also if you wanted the ships gossip this was the place to be listening to the entertainers.

Activities
Because of 'SARS' two ports cancelled and only one substituted. We arrived in Thailand 24 hours early and had to spend the whole time in a cargo port. This was a very large 24 hour working port. Princess could have found an alternative. The lack of information regarding cancelled ports was appalling. Many passengers complained to the unempathetic pursers desk to no avail. The captain spoke once about the cancellations. All very confusing. No apology by the captain or the cruise line. After all you have paid your money and the cruise is nearly over so why should they bother.

Who Goes
A fairly mixed elderly group of British, Australian and Americans with a few from other ccountries. Some younger passengers and a few young children and noisy babies. The Australians and British very friendly and talkative.
