Princess Cruise Line

MS Dawn Princess

Date of Trip: April 3, 2004
Itinerary: Caribbean

Overview
A beautiful ship. Food lets this line down. There are better choices for your money, Carnival and Celebrity spring to mind. No pool towels are provided in the pool area. You are left a new pool/beach towel in your cabin each day.

Public Areas
She is beautiful and despite being full never appeared to be crowded. The restaurants are mid ships and not subject to engine noise and vibration we have experienced on other lines. Buffet areas are badly designed with people trying to enter from either side.

Pools are small for a vessel this size.

Food and Service
This line has obviously economized on food to its detriment. The choices are limited. The china well worn. Pizzeria is good but the choice and opening hours limited. There is no sushi/chinese bar. Desserts were very disappointing though the choice of cheese was good. Service was good.

The optional steak house at $15 each was good. There is no Midnight Buffet.

Carnival, Holland America and Celebrity easily outshine Princess as far as food goes

Cabins
We had a cabin with a balcony and fridge and so could not find fault apart for there being no way of telling the time. I don't think I ever stayed anywhere before with there being no timepiece.

Entertainment
Usually two shows at different venues each night which ere good but not quite up to the standards of other lines. The show lounges were fairly small meaning standing room only for the more popular shows. Entertainment staff mainly British

Activities
Ship called at St Thomas, St Kitts Grenada, Aruba and Isla Marguerita. The latter was a substitution for Caracas. The port is in the middle of nowhere and you would need to take an excursion to see anything of the island. Disembarkation even by tender was well organised.

Who Goes
70% American 20% British 10% other. A lot of loyal repeaters as with other cruise lines. We opted for flexible dinning so met lots of different people. The maitre'd s were good at finding you a table for two if you weren't feeling sociable.
