Princess Cruise Line

MS Dawn Princess

Your Rating:Five Stars

Date of Trip: June 20, 1998
Itinerary: Alaska - Northbound

Overview
The Dawn Princess was launched in 1997 so her public rooms are very good looking. She is a quiet ship compared to most cruises like Carnival. She caries about 2,100 passengers aboard her and you don't even know. She hardly even feels like a cruise ship. Note: She vibrates at cruising speed.

Public Areas
The public rooms are excellent. I especially liked the Vista Lounge because thats were all the action was. The pool was also better than most cruse ships because it was fresh water and was heated. There were 3 pools one which is suspended between two decks. There also was a classic promenade with a teak deck and wooden deck chairs. (3 and one half is a mile) Dawn princess is a very modern ship but she still has that classic feel to her.

Food and Service
The food on this ship was wonderful. She had an excellent choice of seafood and her desserts were exquisite. LaScala pizzeria had made-to-order pizza. The pizza was the best I ever had. Horizon Court was a 24 hour buffet which had anything from bagels and lox to beef tacos. On deck 12 there was an ice cream parlor with Haggan-Daz Ice Cream. Overall the food was a once in a lifetime type deal.

Cabins
The cabin I had was an obstructed view cabin but you could still get a good view of the scenery. The closet has a safe and shelves for 4 persons. The bathrooms were a bit small but large enough to change clothes. The cabins are very quiet even when you are by the casino. The doors are kind of heavy because they are fireproof doors.

Entertainment
The entertainment I was disappointed with. The show "Pirates" was a musical and was good, but I like vegas styled shows better. The cruise staff were very friendly and very funny.

Activities
We stoped at Ketchiken and didn't take any tours because we didn't have a lot of time but it was the best shopping. Juneau had the most variety of things to do. I took a helicopter tour to a glacier. Skagway had excellent hiking and a lot of old west styled things. If you like history you will like this port-of-call. I didn't use the health club or the children's center.

Who Goes
A lot of different cultures came on this cruise. We had Americans British, and Mexican. The people that came were all very nice. I would go see them or invite them to see me.
