Princess Cruise Line

MS Dawn Princess

Your Rating:Two Stars

# previous cruises: 10 to 20
Date of Trip: November 18, 2007
Itinerary: Mexico-Western

Overview
A good itinerary. Unfortunately, this ship is really not suitable for cruising in these waters at this time of year Public Areas : Dawn Princess is a moderate sized cruise ship. She is now 10 years old and getting a little worn in places.

What makes her unsuitable for this itinerary at this time of year is that there is no removable roof over the pool area making it a chilly proposition to sit around the pool on the 3 sea days to get down to and back from the Mexican Riviera.

Public Areas
This was our third Princess cruise and the second on this ship and was by far the best culinary experience with this company .The service was very good. Unusually for a cruise ship the buffet is actually at the front of the ship making for some excellent views.

The steak house - actually a cordoned off area of the buffet was well worth the extra $15 per head

Food and Service
Food was OK. If you wanted a Coke with your supper you were overcharged for it, but not the end of the world. Again, average for a cruise ship.

Cabins
We had a balcony cabin on Aloha deck. The room was small with only room for one chair .There was a small refrigerator. The bathroom has to be one of the smallest in the industry. When you closed the bathroom door the handle got in the shower with you!

The decor is getting worn in places

Entertainment
There were 2 shows most nights in different venues. Although the ship was full they were not that well attended. There was the standard cruise entertainment with comedians(2), singers, magician and production shows. Being a smaller ship and consequently having a smaller stage the shows were not as spectacular as on other larger vessels

Activities
We rented a water taxi in Cabo so visit Lovers Beach-$10 each as opposed to the $35 charged by Princess.

We also visited San Sebastian from Puerto Vallarta.$179 but well worth it. You travel by air from puerto Vallarta in a small airplane to the old silver mining town high up in the Sierra Madre over spectacular scenery. You spend about 5 hours there visiting the remains of a silver refinery, coffee farm, church and historic buildings. Lunch is included at a local restaurant and was the best Mexican food I have ever eaten.

It really was a unique trip and the memories will last a lifetime.

Who Goes
Mainly from the west coast and yes the type of people you would invite to your house
