Norwegian Cruise Line

MS Norwegian Wind

Your Rating:Two Stars

Date of Trip: December 30, 2000
Itinerary: Caribbean - Western

Overview
Of the 5 cruiselines we have used, this ranked the worst. The crew was unhappy about the merger with Star Cruises. The captain seemed inept, having great difficulty docking the ship while other nearby ships had no problem. Late to every port, sometimes as much as 5 hours, causing most landtours and beach visits to be cancelled. Room service trays were slow to be picked up-had to step around them in the passageways.

Public Areas
The public areas were not as attractive as the ones on Princess & Carnival. It was hard to find a place to take a photo that would look nice. The lounges were fine. The dance areas were small but not worse than other ships. The casino was standard. The fitness center had recently had a fire & was unusable.

Food and Service
The dinners were great. The buffets at breakfast & lunch were not very good nor did they vary. The midnight buffets were somewhat better. The waiter & busboy were exceptional. Lots of entertainment by the dining room crew. Room steward was great.

Cabins
Deluxe outside cabin felt spacious & had a nice window that was low enough for us to sit down & still look out. We could see dophins outside of our window. There was not enough storage space for all of our clothing. The television showed a nice view from the front of the ship, along with the current speed.

Entertainment
Too many (3) comedian nights. The "play" was nothing but singing & dancing-no lines. Costumes were no different than what the audience was wearing. Photos were not permitted. The sock hop was less like a dance than a show. The finale show was the best, with better costumes & flair. It was called a circus. An olympic champion was the main act & he did a good job & was obviously enjoying himself at the same time.

Activities
Ports were: 1. Grand Caymen (arrived late;tenders ignored us;ended up with just a couple hours & no tours.)2. Roatan (docked late; most tours cancelled. Saw airport tower, iguana farm, & a beach resort.) 3. Belize (late arrival, tenders were better. Great 9 hour tour of "new River & Lamanai Mayaan ruins". Saw monkeys, crocs. 56 miles on a speedboat, long hike, long bus ride on nice bus, picnic. 4. Cozumel (docked 5 hrs late, missed tours, took taxi to see Mayan ruins. Went to shop. It was evening & the entire city had a sudden & completely widespread blackout which was frightening. Scrambled to find a ride back to the safety of the ship. Days at sea: ping pong, shuffleboard, casino. Bingo was more expensive than usual onboard.

Who Goes
Lots of (nice) Canadians, some families including grandparents, all races, young people, old people. Didn't get to know them well as we had a table for 2 at dinner.
