Itinerary: Caribbean - Eastern

Overview
This was a Christmas cruise, and was sold out. I loved every minute of the cruise, particularily the itinerary which had only three stops all week. If you enjoy being at sea more than being knee deep in tee shirt sellars than this is your cruise.

Public Areas
The public areas were clean and well staffed. I really liked the Club International. I did not patronize the casino but the people I talked to who did seemed happy. My nineteen year old daughter was in Dazzles Disco every night and had a great time.I spent a lot of my free time on the track on Olympic deck walking or just sitting while the sea went by.

Food and Service
The great outdoor cafe was typical cafeteria food, and I did not spend a lot of time there. The dining room staff were fantastic and service was excellent. The food was better than the last cruise I was on.Perhaps because it was Christmas a bit more effort went into preparation and service. The open seating lunch and breakfast were a great way to meet fellow cruisers.

Cabins
We had an A cabin on Viking Deck, it was roomy and comfortable with more than ample closet space. The cabin our two teenage children shared (upper and lower bunk) was inside and small but they were not there much.

Entertainment
I went to all the shows and they were for the most part very good. There was a comedian magician who had set a world record for the most continuos performances in Las Vegas and frankly I am at a loss to understand why.The rest of the entertainment was good to excellent. The house band were all expatriate Russians and did everything from a classical piano recital to a jazz jam session. In between they jammed with the rest of the musicions, a three piece dance trio and a salsa band.

Activities
The usual art auctions and gold by the inch was available for those so inclined, the pools were not too crowded and the gym was heavily patronized. The ports of St. Thomas and St. Maartens were both nice and tropical but very crowded, particularily St. Thomas as there were nine cruise ships in that day. If you like solitary pursuits the ship was fine.If you are more social it is still fine.

Who Goes
There was a mixture of Canadians and Americans plus a few Europeans. I do not think I would have hesitated to meet up after the cruise with anyone I met aboard.
