Norwegian Cruise Line

MS Norwegian Dream

Your Rating:Three Stars

Itinerary: Transatlantic

Overview
Better than I expected. Have been on Norwegian before and vowed never to go again, but had a change of heart and had a pleasant time. Everything was adequate. I went on this cruise to see England, France, Ireland, Scotland, Iceland (didn't make because of Hurricane Fabian), New Foundland, Nova Scotia, Bar Harbor and Boston.

Public Areas
Public areas were nicely laid out. Never felt cooped up while having to stay below because of the severe weather.

Food and Service
Food was bland and little portions. I liked the free style dining. Was nice to eat when I felt hungry and not have to wait till next meal to get something. Desserts were awful. I guess that's why I saw so many ordering ice cream for dessert. They didn't charge for cappacino after dinner, but they did charge for it at the coffee bar...go figure.

Cabins
I was traveling with my aunt, so the first thing we did was rearrange the cabin into two areas. By putting beds against the wall and moving the couch to the larger area against the wall we had all kinds of room.....The curtain partitioned us so we almost felt like we had our own rooms.

entertainment
They used a lot of their own lounge people to do the shows. I felt cheated since I could go to the lounge to them I didn't think they should have a whole show on them. The main dancers were good, their featured dancers were good, but after the fifth time seeing them, nothing they could do was impressive. Only so many lifts you can do without repeating.

Activities
The ports of call were fabulous. We did our own thing (everything the cruise director said not to do) and had a marvelous time. Cruise director used scare tactics to get you to take their excursions. After talking to people who took their excursions we were glad we did our own thing. Saw a lot more, didn't feel like cattle, actually experienced the country by train and on foot. If you have the energy and a little bit of common sense anyone can get a map and ask for help by the locals to do your own tour. May save you money, but will certainly get you back with a much more satisfying trip.

Who Goes
This trip consisted of the geriatric crowd. The average age group was 65 - 75 yrs. At 50 I felt like a young whipper snapper. Only a handful of children and young adults. We made friends with a few on ship, for the most part we kept to ourselves but did join in on shipboard activities.
