Mediterranean Shipping Cruises

SS Melody

Your Rating:One Stars

Date of Trip: January 16, 2001
Itinerary: Transatlantic

Overview
This was a 18 day cruise from Genova to Miami. The German passengers were over 700 and very aggressive, arrogant and rude. If you are sensitive I would not recommend this cruise. This ship would have a higher rating except for the German passengers who ruined the cruise. It happened also that a German man beat a Woman ... only for a chair! The complete lack of organization during the embarkation and dis-embarkation procedure would be enough to discourage a first-time cruiser from ever wanting to repeat the experience.

Public Areas
The public areas where spacious. There was an outdoor pool with 2 saunas on the aft deck and a pool covered with a retractable glass roof on the forward deck. The pools where very clean and enjoyable, but with salt water (anyway they change it every day, so it's every clean).

Food and Service
The food was good. The service was excellent. A special thanks to Angelo. There was also a buffet on deck for breakfast& lunch, but I preferred the dining room. The dining room crew was great(A special thanks to Angelo). There was also a buffet at 11pm which varied each night, mostly sandwiches, desserts, and fruit.

Cabins
The cabin on the Continental deck was very spacious. We had a full bath w/tub, closet space, A living room area with tv, 2 dressers, and 2 beds, but it was a little bit noisy (drone of the motors).

Entertainment
The cruise staff is good. The entertainments was poor. About the worst entertainment I have seen on any ship.

Activities
Apart from a very attractive price for a 18-day cruise, the itinerary was the main reason for selecting this ship. We had the opportunity to visit Gibilterra, Madeira, Antigua, Guadelupe, Tortola, Portorico,Key West and Miami. As well, we enjoyed relaxing during eight days at sea. We took 2 excursions only because they were very bad organized.

Who Goes
The American and Italian passengers were fine. However the Germans when in a confined situation are the most boorish, offensive, annoying passengers to be stuck with. Extremely rude....I would never go on this ship again because of them.
