Island Cruises

MS Island Escape

Your Rating:Four Stars
Reviewed by: Pete Bell
# previous cruises: 5
Date of Trip: July 23, 2002
Itinerary: Mediterranean

Overview
A superb value for money cruise (14 days for #850!!). Cabin on deck 5 was very adequate with good storage. Staff excellent, ship fine, food plentiful and good quality, itinerary very good, weather superb. Compares favourably with Costa, Airtours and First Choice. Would definitely recommend the Island Escape.

Public Areas
All public areas spacious and spotlessly clean. Pool small and populated by children (!) but sun decks more than adequate. Plenty of space to walk around on deck or sit and tan.

Food and Service
Food quality very good in all areas. Beachcomber really useful in that fresh fruit, tea and coffee available at any time. Island restaurant excellent - self service selection amazing. Oasis restaurant really good - waiter service and equivalent to main sittings on other ships.

Cabins
Very adequate - as one only uses a cabin for sleeping and showering / changing. Shower fine. Storage / hanging space more than adequate. Outside cabin on deck 5 was more than satisfactory.

Entertainment
Rather disappointing, as a small group of performers were perhaps overstretched presenting a different show each night for two weeks. However, for the price paid, one does not expect West End quality. A young group of performers put a lot of effort into it.

Activities
Gym well-equipped and very clean. Activities on board comprehensive but not obtrusive. Itinerary excellent - excursions quite expensive, but all can be done independently for a fraction of the cost, using trains, buses, hydrofoil, metro, etc.

Who Goes
Most people we met were fine, enjoying the cruise, and all the first time cruisers we met were impressed and would do it again. As always, there were the "professional complainers" who look for faults and reasons to complain. Ignore them, this is a really good, value for money, cruising experience.
