Itinerary: Alaska

Overview
I could not fault the ship or the staff. The weather was awful and I would not recommend going to Alaska this late in the season. What we did see was spectacular and we would love to go again although next time in July or August

Public Areas
Nicely appointed ship. Large pool which can be covered over in inclement weather-which meant 7 days in our case. There is a casino and the usual bars etc.

Food and Service
Good choice of food. Freshly prepared food at Asian,Italian and sandwich stations in the buffet area. One small grouse was having to line up for toast at a different station from the hot food.

The staff were excellent. They seem very content. Special mention must be made of the master Captain Peter Harris. Highly approachable and knowledgeable. He gave detailed briefings each day on position etc. He even explained to the passengers why we had to return on the rough open seas rather than the east coast of Vancouver Island. He gave the impression of loving his job and the company he works for.

Cabins
We had a cabin with a balcony but the weather was so miserable we barely used it. Bathroom had a bath. Beds were extremely comfortable with new thick sprung mattresses.

Entertainment
The shows were OK. Standard cruise type .There was one comedian who did 10 minutes on the first night but was not seen again. Perhaps he offended some of the passengers this week

Activities
No flightseeing. All trips cancelled because of the weather. It rained, heavily in every port of call except Victoria.

Best value is the $5 round trip bus fare available from a kiosk on the Juneau dockside to Meldenhall Glacier. Don't miss Tinglit center in Sitka-a 15 minute walk from the tender dock.

Who Goes
Being the last cruise of the season and therefore cheaper-a lot of seniors.

There was a large Christian Choir group on this cruise. The bar takings must have been the lowest all season
