Itinerary: Alaska

Overview
I was amazed at the beauty of the ship and the high standards that were maintained everywhere; food, service, amenities, space in the rooms...I could go on and on. Holland america is my first choice for future cruises for now.

Public Areas
There are many open promenades on several decks; one goes all around (no jogging allowed). The explorer lounge had a piano trio in the evening and the crows nest lounge (top deck forward) had many kinds of dancing various nights (music from a live band). All very nice.

Food and Service
All dine in the main dining room in two sittings. Most tables are at or near the floor to ceiling windows, except those in the center of the lower level which are raised for view. The food is to die for..Four courses every night plus 12-15 desserts to choose from. Plan on gaining weight....Fabulous service from waiters and wine stewards. Fine wines at very good prices if you wish.

Cabins
We had a verandah suite; it was about 26 by 8 feet plus 8 by 6 outside. Four closets holding 12 filled hangers each easily, and 16 large drawers by the bed and in the sitting area cabinets. Large bathroom with whirlpool tub and shower. Very quiet. Refrigerator. We got 60% off of the brochure price by booking 4 months early, which made it very reasonable for such a spacious cabin.

Entertainment
Great stage show called 'monte carlo', with excellent singers; very surprising to me on a ship. Also a fine magician one night, and other goodies.

Activities
Did not use pool or health spa, but the spa has workout machines and is large. First-run movies afternoon and evenings in the large movie theater, small casino, internet cafe, card rooms, lounges. Stopped at 4 stops in alaska for a day plus one morning at hubbard glacier. Fishing trips and wildlife trips available in addition to city tours.

Who Goes
We were all couples in 40's and 50's; not a lot of people under 40 on this cruise; very nice people we will stay in touch with.
