Itinerary: River Cruise

Overview
This Valentine's Day trip was the second cruise for us on this cruise line. The boat was bedecked with hearts and flowers for the holiday. Since we had just sailed the American Queen in December, we were always making comparisons between the two. Both have lots to offer but I liked this one a little more. Just a personal preference.

Public Areas
We loved the dining room and the piano which was played every evening with dinner. The murals on the ceiling of the "grand staircase" are beautiful. Very large, comfortable public spaces and decks.

Food and Service
We thought the food on this boat was even better than on the American Queen. Outstanding most nights. The chef was very creative and the presentation was lovely. You may order seconds but it is rarely necessary as the portions are generous. The buffet for breakfast is fine but we normally ordered from the menu for different choices. Drinks and wine are priced properly.

Cabins
We had stateroom 301 and my sis had the stateroom right next door. They each had private verandas but we folded back a panel to make one big area. Like on the American Queen, this cabin was quite spacious and lovely. It had two twin beds (pushed together), an antique dresser and mirror, writing desk, daybed under the large windows, and a very acceptable bathroom (no tub). Just like a Victorian B&B.

Entertainment
This was a "Big Band" cruise so there was dancing every night in addition to the regular shows. The bands were excellent - playing lots of Glenn Miller music. The Ink Spots were fun to see. The bar was packed every night for Dixieland music.

Activities
This is the very same itinerary we'd taken in Christmas. Therefore, we did different or additional things at the ports. We toured plantations and a cotton gin, took a swamp boat tour and horse and carriage rides and sat under 400 year old oak trees. Lots to do.

Who Goes
We really lucked out on this cruise and got 3 of the nicest dinner companions one could hope for.
