Itinerary: Mississippi River

Overview
This was the first of 3 Steamboat cruises we have taken with this company. We went at Christmas and the boat was beautifully decorated for the season. The cabins are spacious and beautiful. The music and shows were wonderful. Even the itinerary was fascinating. We knew, from this experience, that steamboating was right for us and began to plan the next trip even before we disembarked!

Public Areas
All of the public rooms on this boat are beautifully decorated with antiques and are spacious and comfortable. I especially liked the Ladies Sitting Room where tea is served in the afternoon and ladies are invited to work on a quilt and socialize. The back porch was a favorite for my husband who would have his afternoon coffee and brownies there while making use of the rocking chairs.

Food and Service
The food on this boat was both creative and delicious. There were always lots of choices and second helpings are often sought. The service varied from fantastic to adequate.

Cabins
Our cabin had to be one of the best on board - or at least we thought so! It had two twin beds, two antique dressers, a victorian divan, a good size chair and two stained glass portholes. French doors to open to the cool night air, and perfect attention to detail from the attendant, made going to bed such a pleasant treat. It also had a tub with shower and an additional area for a lady to do her hair and makeup. Lots of storage. Just like staying in a gorgeous B&B but each day you were at a new town.

Entertainment
We went to all of the shows and also tried never to miss the music in the lounges. The theater on this boat is grand with two tier seating. (You can sit in an opera box if you get there early enough!) Chip's rendition of "Ole Man River" is legendary. However, I hear he's on the Columbia Queen now. (which we will sail in 2002) The rest of the ensemble was equally talented. Enjoyed every minute of the entertainment - especially the banjo pickin'and sing-a-longs!

Activities
We did the New Orleans round trip on this boat and especially liked our stop at Vicksburg. (civil war) All of the stops have something interesting to share.

Who Goes
We met lots of nice people and have communicated with a number of them since the trip. These boats attract people from all over the world.
