Itinerary: Mississippi River

Overview
The American Queen is SPECTACULAR! I went on this boat on a round trip cruise to New Orleans for 7 nights. Everything from the food, to the rooms, to the service, to the entertainment was wonderful.

Public Areas
I thought that the two story high dining room was a great idea, with the Mark Twain gallery in the middle of the 2nd story so you can see the dining room from the Gallery. The two story Grand Saloon was wonderful too. The theater was a little cramped, but I didn't go on the boat to watch movies. The Front Porch of Americas was a nice place to have lunch and to sit and read a good book on the warm night. Overall, wherever you are in the boat, you will find something to do.

Food and Service
The food was wonderful. It was five course every night and the entrees were always different. They also had heart-healthy meals and vegetarian meals as a choice of one of the entrees. Lunch was almost as elaborate as dinner. You can eat lunch either in the dining room or on the "Front Porch of Americas" which is a lot less formal. Breakfast was usually a buffet with plenty of choices. I never went hungry and I'm a picky eater.

Cabins
When I went on this cruise, I paid for a "Category D" stateroom (AAA being the best and E being the worst). It was inside and fairly small, but I still liked the room. Even though there wasn't much space, you could still walk around and not trip over anything. There was plenty of closet space and plenty of drawers. The bathroom was also very nice with a large sink. The shower was very nice and was surprisingly big to me. It was quiet because this cruise is mainly for adults.

Entertainment
The entertainment was very nice. They had a show every night. On the last night of the cruise, the passengers got to show off their talent by singing or anything else. I entered and I found it hilarious.

Activities
Very relaxing time. Spent a lot of time reading and just watching the river go by.

Who Goes
Everyone seems to be quite friendly.
