Itinerary: Alaska-Inside Passage

Overview
Absolutely the best way to cruise. No distractions such as casinos, glitzy shows or overanimated cruise directors. Just plain relaxation accompanied by a large amount of education and just plain excellent service.

Public Areas
The Observation Lounge was comfortable, spacious and inviting during the inevitable rainy May days - although we only had 2 out of 7 that way. It serves as a continental breakfast and buffet lunch area as well. The promenade was narrow but usable for those with a desire to walk off some of the outstanding food.

Food and Service
Outstanding food, nothing fancy, just well prepared with excellent choices at lunch and dinner. Service was superb and always accompanied with a smile. One sitting for each meal with no fixed seating to allow maximum "mingling."

Cabins
Small, but very comfortable. More than enough closet space for two. Single beds fixed so honeymooners may want to avoid. Big windows in our cabin with blackout curtains for those who don't like a 4:15 sunrise. Small but well laid out bath. Absolutely quiet inside cabin - no outside noise.

Entertainment
Entertainment was primarily lectures by naturalists accompanied by slide shows. They did show a movie one night in the dining room but we had already seen it on the flight up.

Activities
Tremendous lectures and continuing commentary by on-board naturalists. The Captain frequently stopped in areas when whales or other wildlife were sighted and the naturalists provided information over a ship wide PA system. One benefit of a small ship is the ability to reach places the big ones can't so we saw wildlife and glaciers from a reasonably close distance.

Who Goes
Most of the passengers were 50 and up - several doctors either current or retired and other professionals. Not a cheap cruise so passengers generally were well off.
