Itinerary: Caribbean - Eastern

Overview
This 7-day cruise was perfect for a certain type of person. You would need to be very social, able to put yourself forward, happy with a lot of partying and drinking, maybe into gambling. The atmosphere was like a nightclub filled with married 30-somethings who don't get out much, and consequently tend to overdo it.

Public Areas
People tended to hang around the promenade deck because most of the clubs, the shops, and the casino were there. I liked the party atmosphere for the first 3 days, but then I got tired of it. There were plenty of deck chairs in various places. The pools and the gym were way too small. The adult hot tubs were great.

Food and Service
The food was excellent in the main dining room and our waiter Ibrahim was the best. I loved all the chocolate desserts. I was amazed that so much food was prepared so well consistently. The buffet was standard but reliably good and the room service was quick. I never made it to the midnight buffet. Lobster night was delicious, perfectly cooked.

Cabins
The inside cabin was cheerful and large enough for me and my 2 teens. It was kept very clean and well-stocked. The shower was broken when we boarded but was fixed within an hour of reporting the problem. The bathroom and shower are adequate for any but the largest size people. It was quiet on the first floor except when they roll out the gang planks. But we weren't bothered because it sounded kind of cool.

Entertainment
I liked the comedians, did not like the hypnotist (hokey) or the Vegas-style reviews. I thought the main singers were good though.

Activities
On board they are always trying to sell you something, art, whatever. That's a bit tiresome. There's a lot of drinking. The buys at the on-ship store are pretty good value. The casino doesn't pay out much at all. They have a singles' gathering every night, but the cruise director should go to it because it was awkward and nobody talked to each other. We all left there quickly and alone. I think the shore excursions are not a bad value at all. We had a good time on the snorkeling and the Rhino Boat Ride. Don't bother with the "recommended shops." They're a touristy rip-off.

Who Goes
Almost all the passengers seemed to be married, in their 30's with a couple of kids along. I felt like a fifth wheel at most of the adult clubs and shows as a single. My kids met some friends and had a blast though.
