Carnival Cruise Line

MS Fascination

Your Rating:Four Stars
Reviewed by:John Ruggian
# previous cruises: 10+
Date of Trip: November 15, 2002
Itinerary: Mexico-Western

Overview
Fascination is a lovely ship; well taken care of and quite well decorated. The restaurant and food service is excellent. Shows were great. The staterooms need to be redone, they are quite worn. The wax figures, however, covered in their graffiti and dirt really have to go. They may have been an interesting attraction in 1994, but now they just date an otherwise timeless vessel. Bravo to Joe Farcus and Carnival. This really isn't the Carnival of the 80's!!

Public Areas
Public areas very comfortable; no sense of crowding except in the main showroom. As noted about the statues; perhaps they could be grouped together in a library or some other venue. They do detract from the overall decor

Food and Service
Food and service were excellent, and the idea of having tips added to the on-board statement is a great idea. Really takes that added zing at the end out of the trip and the people who work so hard- more than 15-18 hours a day get what they truly deserve.

Cabins
Cabins are worn out; definitely need upgrading. The carpets are worn, the woodwork is scratched and dented. The bathroom is overall in good shape. Cabin E160.

Entertainment
Shows are good; entertainment in lounges good.

Activities
Disappointing dockage in Key West. Takes too long to get anywhere the way its set up with a trolley to town, whereas Norwegian Majesty docks right in town basically at the Hilton by Mallory Square. Cozumel has dockage in the new dock which is good, but costs a little to get to town. As a younger person, I don't mind the tenders that drop you off right in town and also afford great shots of the ship as you approach it or leave it.

Who Goes
Passengers were a mixed age population. There was no rowdiness, no screaming or yelling or drunkenness. Everyone, thankfully, was very courteous and well mannered. A lot of people dressed for the formal night and no one in the restaurant was disheveled.
