Carnival Cruise Line

MS Carnival Conquest

Your Rating:Three Stars

Date of Trip: December 14, 2003
Itinerary: Caribbean - Western

Overview
A family of four, all adults, it is our combined opinion that anyone that has never cruised before or only cruised with Carnival will really like the Conquest. The ship is fine, the food and shows are average and except for cabin stewards and dining room servers the crew does not seem to be very happy. It's doubtful any of us will cruise Carnival again.

Public Areas
The public areas are fine although somewhat bunched together as are many of the lounges. The ship lacks a deck where one can walk entirely around the ship. It has a jog/walk track way on top thats really breezy. The water slide was "broken" for our entire cruise. Not a gambler, the casino seemed average. Considering the size of this ship the shops were less than what we've experienced on some others.

Food and Service
The food was good but rarely served hot. There was a lack of variety in the dining rooms and some of the portions small. The alternative dining areas offering pizza, burgers, deli sandwiches and more exotic seafoods were all great. The availability to 24 hour ice cream was a plus. Service in all venues was fine. The "sports bar" is not!

Cabins
We had two inside cabins. They were definitely larger than those we've had on other ships. The bath/shower area is bigger as well but a problem with the drain would put shower water out onto the floor. Closet space is plentiful. Occasionally you might hear your neighbor or the kids running around over head but this was never a problem. The TV does not offer ESPN or a good all news channel.

Entertainment
We attended all of the main lounge shows and although a lot of production and expense went into the two Vegas style shows we left them feeling something was lacking. Otherwise the adult comedian, juggler and bird show were just that! We weren't all that excited with passenger talent shows. On one occasion where my wife went to the movie; it stopped and the ending was never shown.

Activities
The ship made Montego Bay and Cozumel where we've been before. Cozumel is as great as "Mobay" is bad! Except for a tour you do not want to go anywhere near downtown Montego Bay. First time cruisers do and are always "taken"! Scheduled for Grand Cayman we missed this port due to poor sea conditions. So we had another "sea day" as the alternate port was closed as well.

Who Goes
On a ship this size and considering the season one expects a lot of families. You can expect the passengers to run the gamut. Carnival seems to want to be the Wal-mart of cruising and it's getting there. As is becoming the case generally, many people today simply do not know how to behave in public so be prepared for those "doing their thing" especially where dress is concerned.
