MV Sunbird

Date of Trip: February 9, 2002
Itinerary: Caribbean - Western

Overview
Definitely an old world charm that greets you upon boarding this vessel. I did find a great majority of my fellow cruisers were 40 and up but they were all out for a good time.

I noticed the comfy surroundings when we left the port of St.Maarten and were cheered on by all the massive modern liners. The Sunbird seem to present a very 'at home, mom and pop, everything will be taken care of' operation.

Public Areas
There is a pool deck with 2 small saltwater pools. The kids seemed to love it during the day and it provided a great late night dip.

I spent many hours in the casino. Very entertaining dealers 4 blackjack tables one Caribbean stud poker and one roulette table. A great many slot machines were available as well. I found many people there to be amateurs or first time players. Great source of entertainment. I only hope they add a craps table. The Mast Bar was my second home and was where I met many friends of whom I still keep in touch with. Epi the best bartender occasionally tends house.

Food and Service
I loved the lido deck. It provided the same menu as formal dining in the 7 seas restaurant but with less apps. and no formalities. Formal dining was thoroughly enjoyed when I wasn't wandering around wondering and included songs performed by the waitering staff with acoustic guitar. Just Beautiful

Cabins
Heck. I had an inside stateroom. No window (thank God) Slept like a baby. Only the captain woke me up around 9;30am on a daily basis. Ear plugs people. Oh and I only slept there. The housekeepers are 5 stars.

Entertainment
The shows are British humour. Good to break up the drinking. And losing in the casino.

Activities
Do not rent a car anywhere unless you are familiar with the island or port of call. I just loved St.Maarten...

Who Goes
I am in the stages of planning my next cruise (#2) with 6 people I met on my initial cruise. I'm hooked.
