Itinerary: Mediterranean

Overview
Reasonable value for money but the stench of sewage on main deck, in the lifts and on the upper deck was overpowering and has decided for us not to cruise with Airtours again. The party atmosphere of 1998 was missing due in part to the introduction of Eastern Block waiting staff. It was a pity Captain J.B. couldn't be bothered to talk about the weather even though it was blowing up to force 8 outside.the cabin staff and pursers staff were excellent.

Public Areas
The Mid Summer Night lounge was a particular favorite of ours. We enjoyed the singer and pianist. The Showboat lounge seating was particularly dirty. The walk around promenade area was spacious, but was a particular tripping hazard to joggers due to the rotten woodwork. The pool was small and mainly unsupervised allowing young children to use the deeper part.

Food and Service
The menu was varied and enjoyable. Sometimes the food could have been hotter. The service on our table Number 55 varied in standard from week to week.

Cabins
The cabin - although upgraded to a superior outside - was on the small side. The bathroom was adequate. The sound level was okay. The cabin itself was well serviced.

Entertainment
The comedian entertainers were pathetic - we were almost too embarrassed to watch - they seemed to be making up the jokes as they were going along. The duo in the Carousel lounge were also pathetic. The saving grace on the entertainment side were the duo in the Midsummer Night lounge who were very infrequently advertised by the Cruise Director. The shows provided by the Cruise staff were identical to last year.

Activities
What a rip off! Best thing to do is to read about the stopping off place yourself a "do your own thing". Gibraltar in particular was pathetic. We arrived approximately midday and because of the crush to disembark we left the ship at 14.00. the taxi service into town was slow and town was too far to walk for partially persons. The crush on the forward stairs contravened all health and safety regulations.

Who Goes
Fellow passengers were a wide mix of races and seemed to be good, honest, citizens. I would definitely ask some of them over for dinner once at home; the only stipulation being that they left their husbands or boyfriends at home :-)
