Overview: She started life as Canadian Pacific's Empress of Britain in 1956 and was the second ship in Carnival Cruise Line's fleet in 1975 as the Carnivale. They have spent a fair amount of money recently to bring her up to Royal Olympic's standards and like many of her fleet mates, she still sports the profile of a classic liner. Her interiors are not glitzy, but she's full of out of the way places ideal for getting away from the crowd or reading a book. She has both indoor and outdoor pools and lots of deck space upon which to catch the mid-day sun. Dinner is served at two sittings and the quality of the food and the level of service is very good. Some of the cabins can be a bit cramped so make sure you avoid booking one on the lower decks.
She is currently sailing as the TOPAZ and operates on long term charter to the UK's Thompson Cruises.
