Review by Christopher E. Smith, TravelPage.com, Associate Cruise Editor

Overview
The DRESDEN is THE effortless way to travel the Elbe River of Germany. She can best be described as an intimate luxe hotel, offering up to 106 passengers the finest European service, cuisine and comfort available on Europe's river boats. She is one of the few boats plying the continent's waterways that has two suites, along with regular outside single, twin and triple cabins. All the cabins, cozy and warm, including those lovely suites, are equipped with sensible storage space, bathrooms with shower, and television. But why watch TV when you can nestle in bed watching the river views from your large picture window......every cabin has one! Soft touches such as fluffy bed duvets, feather pillows and eiderdowns (synthetic versions are available for the allergic), single sitting dining, and a charmingly appointed lounge and bars help to earn the DRESDEN her five stars.....but her reputation is maintained by her superlative service.

With roughly one crew member for every two passengers, you can be certain that no unreasonable request will go unnoticed. Food is outstanding and provided constantly.....at least six times a day. And if you don't work off excess weight visiting the ports along the way, you might be able to drop a few during dancing and nightly entertainment on board. The DRESDEN's itinerary is a gem. Begin or end your seven night cruise from Hamburg, an oft overlooked northern German enchantress.

Passengers who are interested in architecture will love Tangermunde and Magdeburg for a taste of Gothic. From Magdeburg, one has the option of making a day trip to Potsdam and Berlin. Martin Luther devotees will appreciate a morning call in Wittenburg. Meissen, Dresden, and Bad Schandau are also on the schedule. From there, you can take a full day trip to Prague, with a final night on board before returning to Dresden where the cruise terminates.

By the way, if seven days just isn't enough for you, Deilmann offers a variety of pre or post hotel packages and inclusive tours that will eliminate the hassles of getting to or from the boat.
