Itinerary: Caribbean

Having recently been refurbished (when she was actually lengthened) the Enchantment was extremely nicely appointed. Her accommodation was elegant and modern, and her public room (for the most part) were reflective of classic modern taste.

Many of the public rooms were very comfortable (some exceptions being the Casino and the Viking Crown Lounge). The atrium was quite spectacular and provided many nice places to sit on various decks. The ship's top decks are fantastic - with a variety of deck sports, jumping course, large swimming pools (like that you'd find at a land-side resort) and a rock-climbing wall. Enchantment is aimed at the traveller who is keen to be active as well as those wanting to laze on a deck chair with a delicious cocktail.

The food was fine - it wasn't fine dining, but it was plentiful and tasty. Enchantment's "My Fair Lady" dining room was elegantly decorated - although on closer inspection there was a lot of "plastic wood" - and nicely laid out. We shared a table of four which allowed us to become friends with our table mates pretty fast. The food (as mentioned) was tasty.
The service was friendly (but was not silver service). The Windjammer Cafe was extremely well used and it's design was excellent allowing for a near seamless transition from Breakfast service to Lunch. Unfortunately the Crew sung every night in the dining room - on the first night it was a novelty - by the 5th night it was a bit intrusive - but fun none the less.

Our cabin was very nice. We had an outside cabin (standard outside with window) - an upgrade from standard inside - which was lovely. The decor was tasteful - the cabin was quiet - the shower had plenty of space and the bathroom was nicely laid out - all in all - couldn't fault it.

The ship's show lounge (Palladium Theatre) was superb. The acoustics here were very good. The entertainment was fine - the floor shows were well polished (I imagine they have done these over and over) and the Cruise Director was very friendly. I particularly liked her final comment on the last night that "The best part about leaving the ship at the end of your cruise is that you can start planning your next cruise". So true.
Our itinerary took us from Ft. Lauderdale to Ocho Rios in Jamaica and Grand Cayman. The ports were both very well catered for Cruise ships and the activities arranged by the Cruise staff were superb.
Snorkeling on a reef in the Caribbean is a dream!
Enchantment of the Sea's caters to a younger crowd. There were a lot of American's aboard (we're Australian) and few people who spoke languages other than English. There was one man aboard who (during the Captain's cocktail party) was awarded for spending over 2,000 nights aboard RCI ships - and he was in his late 70's - so really, anyone can go. It's not Crystal or Cunard service, but it's a fun, good value holiday on a nice, modern, well built ship.
